Fifty years ago a cute teenage girl named Bonnie looked up from her summer job at the paper mill. Light streaming through the windows cast a golden glow on the most handsome guy she had ever laid eyes on! There she was staring at the hunk, and she was wearing a hair net! Paul was the hunk:) Bonnie & Paul officially met at a party a few days later. Paul says she wasn’t wearing a hair net then, so they hit it off! They fell deeply in love the summer before their senior year of high school. A year later Bonnie became a stewardess and Paul went to college. Their lives went in different directions. They both married, had families and settled in different states.
A high school reunion brought Paul back to Kalamazoo in 2014. He called Bonnie to ask if he could take her and her husband out to dinner. Bonnie’s husband had died of cancer a few years before. When she heard Paul’s voice on the phone she could barely breathe. He asked if she knew who was calling ” “she definitely knew it was Paul!!!” She was talking to her first love! They met for dinner and the rest is history.
I had the privilege to record the joy of their wedding day at the Kalamazoo Country Club. Family and friends came together to celebrate the next chapter of their life together. I so enjoyed having some time alone with Bonnie & Paul on the beautiful grounds of the country club. I got to hear their story from Paul’s point of view. There was a lot of laughter and joy! Here are a few of my favorites. Enjoy!
Paul & Bonnie double dated with this couple back in their teenage years. They are all in Kalamazoo now and enjoying double dates again!
